Paul is currently Head of Plant Science in UCD. His research interests include: Elucidating the core mechanism which regulates programmed cell death in crop plants and suspension cultures, and characterisation of cell-cell signals which drive developmental processes in suspension cultures. Current funding in his group comes from EU, Enterprise Ireland-SFI, DAFF, and Irish Research Council. He is the cademic representative on the Bord Bia sponsored ‘Novel Plant Development’ committee that comprises industry, academic and government members. The remit of this committee is to facilitate the development and take up of high value novel plants by Irish horticultural industries. His current DAFM and EI-SFI funding involves collaborative links with both the forestry and horticultural industries.
